Playing down your wealth in poorer countries

So as to not attract attention, as well as not being taken advantage of, what are some ways to play down one's income and wealth while living in a relatively poor country?

Discretion probably. If you start flashing it around you will be noticed. There's every chance you'll stand out anyway, o obviously depending on where you're from and where your living. So people may assume you've got money even if you don't. So I'd just advise caution.
